Local residents who have not yet done so are again encouraged to complete the very important task of participating in the U.S. Census.
Census data collection is moving forward after the process did experience some delays as a result of the pandemic. Census representative Susan Licate talked to our newsroom saying “Our new plans to complete the data collection is now in place. So, we are prepared and continue our commitment to conduct an accurate account while protecting the health and safety of the public and our workforce.”
Those who have not yet entered a response are encouraged to respond by phone, mail, or online since this information determines how much federal funding the state receives as well as representation in Congress.
Non-response follow up door to door operations are now underway with workers utilizing personal protective equipment and social distancing. According to Licate, Butler County’s response rate so far is not bad but it could be improved. She said, ” Butler County right now is at 73.9%.” She said the county is doing well but, “We’re not there yet. In comparison, Pennsylvania is just a a hair above 66% but there is still some work to do. We do have some areas of concern…within the county…those areas are primarily in the northern areas of the county.”
Census information cannot be used against a person by law and the Census Bureau cannot release information that identifies respondents. Census data collection will continue through the end of September.
