Congressman Mike Kelly is helping to keep attention on the case of a Butler native still serving time in a Russian prison.
The U.S. House recently passed a resolution supported by Kelly to call for the immediate release of Americans currently imprisoned on being held in Russia, including Marc Fogel.
The resolution passed unanimously through the House Tuesday evening expressing sympathy and solidarity for families of all “American citizens and lawful permanent residents wrongfully detained abroad for the personal hardship experienced as a result of the arbitrary and baseless arrest and detention of their loved ones.”
Fogel was arrested in August of 2021 while teaching in Russia for possession of medical marijuana prescribed for back pain. One year ago he was sentenced to 14 years of hard labor in a Russian prison.
