After reaching a state budget agreement, Pennsylvania will end its bid to join the Regional Greenhouse Gas initiative (RGGI).
The program capped the amount of carbon Pennsylvania companies would be allowed to emit.
The initiative first launched through executive order by then Governor Tom Wolf. It faced several legal challenges as well as many attempts at repeal.
Governor Josh Shapiro announced his own alternative to RGGI in his first budget but a vote on the proposal that would be a cap-and-trade program along with increases to renewable energy.
No word on if that proposal would be considered in the future.
