The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission is looking for updates to the state’s railroad regulations.
Commission officials say there are still areas of improvement for the railroad industry.
The commission is advocating for a network of electronic devices that can scan passing trains for safety. They also are looking for post-inspection compliance reports, train speed limits, and an analysis of procedures for trains carrying hazardous materials.
The Commission released the proposal in the wake of the third anniversary of the train derailment in East Palenstine, Ohio.
