The Sabres are in second place in the Atlantic Division with 78 points. They trail first-place Tampa Bay by two points. The Pens remain in second place in the Metropolitan Division with 75 points. They are tied with the New York Islanders, who lost 5-1 to Anaheim last night. The Pens have played two less games than New York.
The Pens face tough stretch over the next week with teams already in a playoff spot, in first place or getting hot while trying to put themselves in playoff position. They host Philadelphia Saturday. The Flyers have won three straight games. Boston comes to Pittsburgh Sunday. The Bruins currently hold the final Eastern Conference Wild Card spot. Next week, the Pens visit first-place teams Carolina and Vegas.
