In early February, a 58-year-old Butler woman was contacted by an unknown suspect that there was a problem with her Apple Firewall and it would cost $2,400 to fix the issue.
The victim purchased 24 gift cards for $2,400 and sent the information to the unknown suspect.
The investigation is ongoing and police are asking anyone with information is asked to contact State Police Butler.
Experts say, whenever you receive a call asking to send money, hang up and verify the information before sending money. You’re also advised to never send money through crypto currency, gift cards, or any other untraced able money transfer.
