Joseph “Joe” W. Foltz, 82, of Sewickley passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2026. He was born in Wilkinsburg on April 22, 1943, to the late Joseph and Nan Foltz.
Joe traveled the world, first honorably serving in the U.S. Army and then working for U.S. Steel, PPG and Timken. Joe met his wife of 57 years Dorothee Foltz in Galtür, Austria, while serving in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Vietnam Era. The couple spent their lives together living first in Germany, then in the U.S., and France, with the most of their time calling Pittsburgh home. Joe retired from Timken in 2005 spending his retirement years in their Sewickley Hills home.
In his younger years Joe was an avid runner, running downtown on his U.S. Steel and PPG lunch breaks. He was a car enthusiast spending many hours tooling around on old M.G. cars and then later driving a 1977 Porsche 911. As a young child and into retirement Joe also enjoyed time at their family cottage on the Allegheny River near Tidioute, Pennsylvania. He and his brother Bob started going “up to the river” as kids in the 40’s and 50’s.
Once an avid hobby photographer, Joe lived long enough to see his son Sebastian become a staff photographer at both the Butler Eagle and the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Joe is survived by his wife, Dorothee Foltz and son, Sebastian Foltz.
