A couple of state agencies are teaming up today to care for some special birds.
The Pennsylvania Game Commission and Department of Environmental Protection for the banding of the peregrine falcon nestlings on the 2025 Rachel Carson State Office Building in Harrisburg.
This event will be livestreamed at 10 a.m. on the DEP’s Facebook page with each of three nestlings brought in from the 15th floor ledge to be weighed, inspected, and light metal bands secured to their legs so that they can be tracked and later identified.
In the coming weeks, the young falcons will begin learning to fly with Falcon Watch and Rescue volunteers monitoring around the building. Since 2000, a total of 100 peregrine falcon eggs have hatched at the Rachel Carson State Office Building nest site.
