Butler County will be applying for grant funding that will go toward completing the massive construction of Route 228.
The county approved the application for the federal “Infrastructure for the Rebuilding America” grant. It would be for nearly $61 million.
County officials say it would go to the final 3.2-mile segment of the Gateway 228 project—which is in between Franklin Road in Cranberry and Pittsburgh Street in Adams Township.
Work is still underway on Route 228 at the intersection with Three Degree Road, but that is expected to wrap up this fall.
County officials say the final stretch of the project is the most challenging due to the hillsides and right-of-way costs. It’ll be an estimated $122 million project.
