A local man has been sentenced in connection with failing to pay taxes associated with his businesses.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice, 51-year-old Michael Funovits of Butler will serve three years of probation and be required to pay over $700,000 in restitution.
Last September Funovits entered a guilty plea in federal court to four counts of willful failure to collect or pay tax.
An IRS criminal investigation determined that between 2016 and 2023 Funovits intentionally failed to turn over payroll taxes he collected from his businesses PennRo Associates LLC and Penn Exteriors LLC.
