Butler City Council is paying to address a Main Street property that has been a longtime safety concern.
At their meeting Thursday, councilmembers approved awarding a contract to Hiles Excavating LLC in the amount of nearly $103,000 for the demolition of 123 South Main Street. This bid was significantly lower than the only other received for the work.
The former consignment and antique shop has been used most recently for storage but the pillar supporting the main steel beam of the building has been deteriorating. A court order will transfer the property to the city immediately before demolition gets underway with the empty lot expected to eventually be transitioned to the Butler City Land Bank
This work will take place as soon as possible with no impact on Main Street traffic but a portion of the alley next to the property, East Birch Street, will likely need to be closed for some time.
