Lawrence “Butch” McConnell, 84, of Bruin passed away on Sunday, August 2, 2026. He was born in Pittsburgh on July 5, 1942, to the late James and Mildred (Hughes) McConnell. Butch honorably served in the U.S. Army from 1964-1966. And was employed at ARMCO from 1968 until his retirement in 2001.
Butch was an avid outdoorsman; and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He owned his own sawmill and had vast knowledge of trees and lumber. Butch loved to cook for his family, he owned every color lab dog and took every grandchild to Disney.
Butch was the beloved husband of Marlene (Craig) McConnell, whom he married on November 18, 1966; father of Michael (Darla) and Jeffrey (Leanne) McConnell, Michelle Knox and Jodi (James) Thompson; brother of Edwin McConnell; grandfather of Kortney (Michael) Bradley, Jeremy (Emily) and Seth (Anjana) Bowser, Michael (Lindsey) and Matthew (Beth) McConnell, Samantha (Joe) Cornetti, Tausha (Dan) Knapp, Kaitlin (Dustin) Scheerbaum, James (Kim) and Lalianna Thompson, Tia (Josh) Stutz, Trevor (Maria), Sara (Emily) and Marli (Tyler) Knox; great grandfather of Kiara, Kate, Koen, Walker, Kyran, Iveigh, Liam, Rowan, Nora, Hanna, Ryan, Easton, Mason, Nolan, McKinley, Madden and Tripp, with 2 new great grandchildren coming in the next few weeks.
Along with his parents, Butch was preceded in death by his siblings, Louise “Lou” Horner, James and Thomas McConnell; and his infant great granddaughter, Everly.
