A local lawmaker is proposing legislation to further regulate artificial intelligence in schools.
State Representative Brandon Dukes is proposed legislation that intends to provide guidance and resources to school districts.
Dukes says AI policies in schools across the Commonwealth vary on action taken by school boards, superintendents, principles, and teachers.
The bill provides clear guidelines on acceptable and prohibited uses of AI, require human oversight, and provide data transparency and privacy to students and families.
Schools will still be able to make decisions on AI policies; this legislation aims to build a foundation on acceptable uses of AI.
The bill has been formally introduced to the State House Education Committee.
