The Slippery Rock University football team moved up two spots this week to #8 in the nation following their PSAC-West opening win over Cal 41-26 Saturday. The Rock will host Gannon for a 6pm kick-off this week. Hear the game on the Rock Athletics Audio network, including The Rock Station 97.7
Rock quarterback Da’One Owens was named the PSAC-West Offensive Player of the Week after leading The Rock to their comeback win over the Vulcans. He rushed for two scores in the game after beginning the game 1-for-6 with two interceptions. He recovered to become the first Rock quarterback since Roland Rivers in 2019, against Cal, to rush for more than 100-yards. After the slow start, Owens went 13-of-19 for 245 yards and two touchdowns. He totaled 341 yards and four scores.
Pitt quarterback Mason Heintschel and wide receiver Demetrice McCray earned weekly honors following their standout performances in the Panthers’ 59-0 victory against Bucknell. Heintschel was named one of eight Manning Award Stars of the Week, while McCray was selected as the Atlantic Coast Conference Rookie of the Week.
