In college football over the weekend:
#8-ranked in Division II Slippery Rock scored the final 35 points of their game at home against Gannon, breaking open a game they led 14-10 at halftime to win 49-10. Rock running back Jay Jay Jordon rushed for 176 yards and three touchdowns, while quarterback Da’One Owens threw four touchdown passes. The Rock improved to 5-0 and will host Seton Hill this Saturday night. The Griffins shutout California 29-0 Saturday, holding the Vulcans to just 22 yards of total offense.
Also on Saturday – Grove City defeated Bethany 40-20. They visit Westminster this Saturday night. Westminster lost to Case Western Reserve on their Homecoming Saturday 36-29.
Friday Night – Pitt defeated Virginia Tech 35-33 after the Hokies missed a last-second field goal that would have won the game. The Panthers improved to 5-0, but lost starting quarterback Mason Heintschel to a season-ending knee injury in the game. They host North Carolina this Saturday at noon.
Pitt has now moved into the Associated Press top-25 this week after the victory. The top five spots, led by Texas remained unchanged.
Also Friday night – Penn State fell behind Northwestern 24-10 by halftime, and lost their second straight game 34-13. The Nittany Lions host #19-ranked Southern Cal this Saturday night.
