Allegheny County now has their first confirmed case of measles as the state officially surpasses 1,000 total cases.
The health department says the Allegheny County case was in an unvaccinated person under 18. They also say anyone that visited the Target in the Pine Creek Shopping Center last Thursday from 3:45-5:45 p.m. may have been exposed to this individual.
Health officials say individuals who are unvaccinated are most at-risk.
Meanwhile, the DOH reported on Monday 27 new measles cases were confirmed on Friday. That now brings the total to 1,004.
There have also been nearly 200 people hospitalized, and five measles-related deaths.
Health officials advise everyone over the age six to be fully vaccinated with both doses to drastically reduce chances of hospitalization. More information can be found online through the state website’s Measles Dashboard.
