A West Sunbury man accused of sexually assaulting a minor in 2011 had charges dropped before he went to trial.
In February 2024, 73-year-old Andrew Betz was charged with sexually assaulting an 11-year-old runaway boy.
The trial that completed jury selection was scheduled to start this week but was canceled and charges against Betz were dropped.
In a statement District Attorney Rich Goldinger told our newsroom that charges were dropped after the victim was unwilling to move forward.
Goldinger said that prosecutors were still prepared to go forward with the case but decided they “did not want to force the victim to do something he was unwilling to do and did not want to make him relive memories he didn’t want to remember.”
