Pennsylvania’s top law enforcement official recently stopped a Cranberry Township business to mark the second anniversary of the formation of a specialized unit.
Attorney General Dave Sunday was one of several speakers at a press conference Tuesday morning about the importance of and the progress made by Pennsylvania’s Organized Retail Crime Task Force.
According to Sunday, this unit of ten agents, a supervisor, and five attorneys has active investigations underway in 50 counties and has made 100 arrests over the past two years.
“Organized retail crime is not a victimless crime, and it is not a problem any one agency, retailer or community can solve alone,” Sunday said. “Our Organized Retail Crime Section has made significant progress over the past two years because of the partnerships we have built with retailers, law enforcement, community members, and the Legislature. When we share information, connect the dots and bring our collective resources to the table, we are better positioned to dismantle these criminal networks and protect employees, customers and businesses in Pennsylvania.”
He went on to stress the cooperation between law enforcement like the Cranberry Township Police and retailers like Walmart in preventing thefts that are often used to fund larger criminal enterprises while also driving up the cost of many items for law-abiding citizens.
