The Butler County Prison is changing some of its medical policies in an effort to try and be more efficient.
The county approved a change with Prime Medical, which covers a variety of health care services for the prison.
Included in that change is increasing catastrophic care insurance coverage from $200,000 to $400,000. Prison officials say they have been closer to the higher number in years past, and believe this is a pretty fair number to help prevent overages.
They also are adding more hours for mid-level providers in an effort to cut down on after-hours care and sending inmates out for care.
Prison officials say these changes should help bring better control of costs and predictability for budgets.
