A Cranberry Township recreation space is receiving statewide recognition.
The Pennsylvania chapter of the American Planning Association recently announced that the Armstrong Great Lawn has been designated as a 2026 Great Public Space in Pennsylvania.
Through a design process that began in 2023, followed by fundraising and groundbreaking in 2024, and an official debut last year, this project has transformed the former Municipal Center parking lot into a welcoming outdoor gathering space for people of all ages and abilities.
A wide variety of community events are able to be held among the pedestrian pathways, fountains, shaded picnic tables/lounge chairs/memorial benches, a reading garden next to the adjacent library, and improved connectivity to residences nearby.
The Great Places program began in 2014 and has grown to a total of 72 places in 38 counties across the state.
