Daniel Lee Check, 74, of Sarver, passed away in the comfort of his home on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2025.
Dan was a self-made man who lived life to the fullest. At the age of 18, he met the love of his life, Margaret “Margie” Green of Herman. Together they built a life grounded in hard work, devotion to their family, and celebrated 55 years of marriage this year.
With Margie’s support – and later with the help of their sons – Dan started a small business from the ground up. Through his ingenuity, determination, and entrepreneurial spirit, he grew that business into a thriving success. His hard work provided a comfortable and secure life for his family, ensuring his children and grandchildren grew up with opportunities he did not have, and his wife had always dreamed of.
Dan was an avid hunter and fisherman. Weekends often found him on his boat fishing on Lake Erie. More than anything, he cherished time spent with family and friends. He had a gregarious personality and a quick sense of humor that made everyone he met feel like an instant friend.
He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish, St. Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, and his legacy of love, generosity, and laughter will live on through his family and friends.
Dan is survived by his beloved wife, Margie Check; sons Todd Check and Vaughn Check (Kathy Christie); daughter, Kim Check; and grandchildren Corey, Dylan, and Paige Check. He is also survived by his sister, Kathy Check, and brother, Richard Check, along with many loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Gladys Uptegraph Check; brothers, David, Fred, and Andrew “Buddy” Check; and sister, Erma Jean Summerville.
There will be no visitation.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Oct. 4, at 10 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, St. Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church, 821 Herman Rd., Butler, with Rev. Matt McClain officiating. Everyone is asked to please meet at the church.
Burial will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Martin Funeral Home Downtown, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler.
