David T. Monteleone, 77, of Herman, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home and with his loving daughters at his side on the morning of Sunday, June 7, 2026, following complications of cancer.
David was a man deeply devoted to his family, his faith, his friends, and his community. Above all, he was known for his generous heart and his unwavering dedication to taking care of others.
He retired from AK Steel after 30-plus years of employment.
He was a Vietnam-era veteran of the U.S. Army.
An avid outdoorsman and craftsman, David found great joy in the simple pleasures of life, including fishing, playing cards, gardening, and baking. He was also a winemaker and master scuba diver.
He was a faithful member of All Saints Parish, St. Peter Roman Catholic Church. He was an active member of many local organizations, including Elks Lodge 170, Meridian Vets Club, Slovak Sokol Society, Sons and Daughters of Italy1664, Fryburg Sportsman’s Club, American Legion Post 778, VFW Post 249, and the RC Men’s Club.
David is survived by his four loving daughters and sons-in-law, Danyale “DJ” and Steve Hilliard, Krystal and Pete Rivera, Jill and Dave Weaver, and Brittany and Jared Panei; his nine cherished grandchildren; two brothers, Patsy Monteleone and his wife, Carol, and John Monteleone and his wife, Maria; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Pasquale F. “Patsy” Monteleone and Anna J. Isovitsch Monteleone; a brother, Charles “Buddy” Monteleone; and a sister-in-law, Trish Monteleone.
The Monteleone family extends their sincere and heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Good Samaritan Hospice for the professional and compassionate care that enabled the family to keep their dad at home.
Family and friends will be received at Martin Funeral Home Downtown, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler, on Tuesday, June 9, from 3 p.m. – 7 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 10, at All Saints Parish, St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, 127 Franklin St., Butler, with Rev. John J. Baver officiating.
Military Honors will be accorded at the church by American Legion Post 778, VFW Post 249, and VFW Post 499.
Burial will take place in St. Peter Cemetery.
