Donald E. “Don” Lane, 92, of Butler, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 27, 2026, while under the care of Concordia at the Orchard.
Born July 20, 1933, in Butler, he was the son of the late Donald H. and Mary K. (Summerville) Lane.
Don was a graduate of Butler High School and attended Grove City College. He then went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Army. Don made his career at Armco / AK Steel as a locomotive mechanic until his retirement in April 1996. He was a long-time member of Hill United Presbyterian Church in Butler. Don was also a 32nd degree Mason with the Butler Victory Lodge #272, a member of Shriners International, and was the past President of the Butler City Hunting and Fishing Club. He especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, shooting, and model railroading. Don will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his three sons: Donald E. (Tammy) Lane, Jr., David P. (Roseann) Lane, and Douglas S. Lane; three grandchildren: Rebekah M. (Scott) Lane Garland, Ethan J. (Ali) Lane, and Kelsey N. Lane; his brother, Dick (Nancy) Lane, his sister-in-law, Beverly (Don) Shelenberger, two nieces and three nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis M. “Phyl” Lane, whom he married on April 30, 1955, and who passed away on September 15, 2022, and his brother John “Jack” Lane.
Family and friends will be received on Monday, July 6, 2026, from 11AM-2PM at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 E. North St., Butler, PA 16001. A funeral service will be held immediately following visitation at 2:00 PM with Rev. Leigh Benish and Rev. Mark Davis officiating.
He will be laid to rest at Butler County Memorial Park and Mausoleum.
