A Pittsburgh man has been charged in Cranberry Township after he allegedly stole a rental car.
The victim reported to police on April 20 that a vehicle they rented to 40-year-old Steven Jaras had not been returned.
Police say Jaras was supposed to return the car four days earlier, but he kept making excuses and would not turn it back in. Police left a message for Jaras and reported it as stolen.
On April 26, the vehicle was located near Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh and towed away. The victim got the car back, but had to pay nearly $1,000 for towing, a locksmith, and new key.
The victim is seeking restitution for the theft and Jaras has been charged with theft of leased property and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
He’s awaiting a preliminary hearing.
