The Knoch boys basketball season came to an end last night, with North Catholic outlasting the Knights 77-69 in triple overtime. The game ended tied at 48 through regulation. The two teams battled to a tie at 54 through a first overtime, then tied at 59 at the end of double overtime.
Knoch senior guard Teegan Finucan, the school’s all-time leading scorer, led the Knights with 26 points in his final high school game. Jason Fredericks led the Trojans with 29 points.
North Catholic moves on to the quarterfinal round for the fourth consecutive season. The Trojans will meet Carver Engineering & Science Friday night. Knoch ends their season with a WPIAL championship and a record of 23-5.
Another team from Class 4A Section-1 has reached the next round of the state tournament as well. Deer Lakes defeated Hickory last night 46-37. Deer Lakes will get Obama Academy in the Western Region quarterfinals Friday.
The Karns City girls fell to Central Cambria 41-34 in the Class 3A Second Round.
Tonight in the Class 4A state Second Round: the North Catholic girls will meet Harbor Creek at Sharon high school. The Slippery Rock girls will face WPIAL champion Oakland Catholic at North Allegheny high school. Both games begin at 6pm.
In the PIHL Penguins Cup playoffs tonight – Mars will face Quaker Valley in the Class 1A semifinals. Face-off is 9pm.
