As America celebrates its 250th anniversary this year, the Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission (PHMC) is launching a new initiative showcasing Pennsylvania’s central role in the nation’s founding and growth.
As part of that initiative, a new exhibition is now open at the State Museum of Pennsylvania in Harrisburg. It features rare artifacts from the American Revolution, centennial and bicentennial reflections, and commemorative art including Charles Weisgerber’s 1893 painting, Birth of Our Nation’s Flag.
The exhibit will be open through August 2nd.
Also as part of this initiative, the Pennsylvania Military Museum will present Patriots & Prisoners: The Pennsylvania Experience, examining the lived experiences of prisoners of war through artifacts, uniforms, and more later this month at the PA farm show.
Several PHMC historical sites are also hosting signature events, including a Civil War Weekend at the Old Economy Village in Ambridge this coming May.
More information about the initiative can be found at phmc.pa.gov.
