May is Better Hearing & Speech Month and families of students who are blind, deaf, or have a visual or hearing impairment can apply for scholarships through the Blind or Deaf Beneficiary Grant Program.
This state funded program is administered by the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA). Scholarships up to $500 are available to blind or deaf students enrolled in postsecondary institutions for the 2026-27 academic year.
PHEAA is also marking Mental Health Awareness Month in May by spotlighting internships available through the Pennsylvania Mental Health Education Learning Program in Schools. This program is also administered by PHEAA to support school-based mental health professionals who must complete an internship before receiving their credentials.
Finally, as part of Military Appreciation Month, PHEAA is encouraging veterans, service members, and their families to take advantage of the financial aid opportunities available to them, especially through the PA Military State Aid Programs. The PA National Guard Military Family Education Program (MFEP) is a tuition assistance program for dependents (spouses and children) of PA Guard Members who commit to an additional 6-years of service with the PA National Guard.
Those who are interested in applying for these funds or programs should visit the PHEAA website for information about requirements.
