The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 5-0 Wednesday afternoon, completing their second straight series sweep. Mitch Keller tossed seven shutout innings on five hits. He walked one and struck out seven. He won his third game of the season, and dropped his ERA to 3.64.
Keller also broke Paul Maholm’s mark for most strikeouts by a Pirates pitcher at PNC Park.
Tommy Pham had two hits and drove in two runs. Isaiah Kiner-Falefa also drove in two runs.
The Bucs have won six games in a row and the Pirates pitchers extended their scoreless streak to 31 innings.
They outscored the Cardinals 13-0 in the three-game series. It was the first time they had three straight shutouts in a decade.
The Pirates are off today, then begin a three-game series in Seattle Friday afternoon. They will also visit Kansas City and Minnesota on the nine-game road trip.
