By a unanimous vote the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission has approved a motion to create rules to protect consumers.
The “Notice of Proposed Rulemaking” will look to protect safeguards for customers, such as payment arrangements, winter terminations, medical certifications, protection for domestic violence victims, and other essential standards.
These standards had previously been in existence last year, but after Harrisburg failed to extended these regulations the PUC is working to codify the rules as the regulatory body of utilities in Pennsylvania.
A meeting will be held early next year before the proposed rules will be subject to public comment from stakeholders, utility companies, advocacy organizations, ands the general assembly.
You can find a copy of the motion on the PUC website.
