Robert “Bob” Prowel, Jr., 83, of Center Twp, Passed away at Butler Memorial Hospital in the early hours of August 17, 2026.
Born January 31, 1943, in Butler, he was the son of the late Bob and Florence Prowel of Institute Hill.
Bob was a 1960 graduate of Butler High School, and went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Air Force during Vietnam and was a graduate of the US Air Force NCO academy. He was proud of his scouting past and was an Eagle Scout. Bob worked in the telecommunications industry throughout his career, working for United Telephone, IBM, then retiring from ROLM/Siemens. Bob was a long time member of The United Methodist Church. He enjoyed stock car racing and was a regular fixture at most of the local racetracks. Bob also enjoyed dancing, roller skating, traveling, and his daughter’s chicken and biscuits. Bob was an only child, and always wanted a big family. He succeeded with that, and above all else, loved and cherished spending his time with all of them.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Elaine (Hallman) Prowel, whom he married on March 19, 1965; his children Robert Prowel, III, Adrienne (Thomas) Ionta, Sereina (Walter) Hehman, and Sarah Prowel; his six grandchildren; Gavynne, Connor, Val, Jorgia, Ozzy, and Ashleigh (Reed) and his great grandchild, Penelopea.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Saturday, August 22, 2026, from 10:00AM-12:00PM at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 E. North St., Butler, PA 16001. A funeral service will immediately follow in the funeral home at 12:00 PM with Pastor Brandon Moore officiating.
He will be laid to rest with full military honors accorded by the Butler County Honor Guard at Butler County Memorial Park and Mausoleum.
