The Slippery Rock Borough council voted down a proposal to help with federal immigration enforcement.
At a jam-packed meeting last night, council debated about the proposed 287g agreement, which would allow borough police to assist with ICE operations.
Our news partners at WPXI report residents who spoke at the meeting said the university has a major impact on the community, and they were concerned what impact enforcement would have on students at SRU who are immigrants.
Advocates for the agreement said it would give the borough additional federal resources to help with immigration enforcement.
The borough narrowly voted down the agreement by a 4-3 margin.
