Butler high school had three former players selected in the MLB draft over the weekend. Pitcher Kyle Casteel, who just graduated, was taken by the Chicago White Sox in the 11th round. Two other former Butler pitchers were drafted along with Casteel. David Leslie was taken by the New York Yankees in the ninth round. He had played three seasons at Grove City before playing his senior season at Pitt. Madden Clement was selected by the Kansas City Royals in the 15th round. Clement was with Virginia Tech for three seasons, but had entered the transfer portal following this past season.
The Pirates had selected 21-year old outfielder Derek Curiel from LSU with the first overall selection Saturday. They had the fifth overall selection. The Pirates had a total of 21 picks, including 16 Sunday.
